BART riders trying to get through San Francisco endured long delays Monday morning after a power issue on the trackway in the downtown areas forced the cancellation of two lines.

The shutdown of the Green Line between the Daly City and Berryessa/North San Jose stations and the Red Line between the Richmond and Millbrae stations marked the fourth Monday since Oct. 20 that that BART has endured a significant delay or interruption to its operation.

The lines remained closed for about two hours. BART restored its service about 8:55 a.m., though delays endured.

BART spokesperson Anna Duckworth said BART closed the two lines “to ease the flow of trains” through the Transbay Tube and “prevent bottlenecks.”

All 50 stations stayed open during the trackway issues, as did service to all stations.

BART has endured significant commute challenges this year. The system first endured major turbulence in May, when it had to close its whole system. BART also closed all 50 stations in September.

The September shutdown came 2½ weeks after BART closed its Red Line service between Richmond through the San Francisco Airport and into Millbrae. That delay came on the first day that passengers were able to swipe credit cards and ATM cards instead of Clipper cards in its new Tap and Ride system of pay.

In addition to the May station closure, BART that month endured a fire near the tracks between the Daly City and Balboa Park stations. That caused BART to shut down service between those stations on May 27, the day after a fire near the San Leandro station the previous work affected service between the Lake Merritt, Berryessa and Dublin stations.
