Patricia M. Day OBITUARY
Patricia M. Day OBITUARY
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother Patt Day, December 9, 2025, at the age of 93.
Survived by children: Bill (Maggie), and Kevin Day; daughter Melanie Day Black (Jeff); grandchildren: Mathew Day, Adam (Anna) Day, Amanda Day, Reagan Black and Patricia Black; three great grandchildren: Luke, Caleb and Kara Day; sister Judy Lee, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by husband James W. Day.
Patt was born October 20, 1932, in Modesto, California, to Bill and Opal Roberts. As a child of the Great Depression, and later World War II, Patt learned frugality at a young age. The family found many ways to make a dollar count, notably raising their own chickens and chinchillas, growing their own fruit and vegetables, and sewing their own clothes.
Patt attended Modesto High School. Having been blessed with a beautiful soprano voice, she participated in musical theatre and the school chorus. Patt graduated in 1950 and one year later married her high school sweetheart, Jim Day.
Patt and Jim started their family, eventually landing in Saratoga. When Jim started his own construction company, Patt put her “frugal” talents to use by running his office, answering phones and maintaining the books. Fortunately, that was a temporary arrangement!
When the kids grew a little older, it was always a desire to enroll in college and receive her degree. She received a BA in English Literature from Santa Clara University in 1970.
Always the devoted mother, Patt spent many hours involved in her children’s activities. These included attending baseball games, football games, Camp Fire Girl leader, shuttling kids to practices, music and dance lessons. In between spectating and chauffeur duties, Patt worked tirelessly to become a gourmet cook and accomplished painter.
Also blessed with a wicked sense of humor, Patt could always be counted on for a good wisecrack. She always enjoyed a good murder mystery, a cold glass of chardonnay and a dog in her lap, preferably all at the same time.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Patt’s name to VITAS Community Connection (hospice services), Guide Dogs for the Blind or Samaritan’s Purse.
