Lenzie Taylor OBITUARY

Lenzie Taylor, known as L.T., passed away peacefully on November 27, 2025, at 75. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Toretha and Edward Taylor Sr.

Lenzie is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Taylor, his daughter Rebecca Flatt (Ted), who was the light of his life, and his beloved grandson Micah.

L.T. had 11 siblings. He was preceded in death by Edward Jr., Rene, Ronnie, and Jerry, and is survived by Bonnie, Betty, Tina, Debra, Terry, Denise, and Jelani. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Lenzie grew up in Salt Lake City. He graduated from Judge Memorial High School in 1969 and went on to attend Weber State College. His first job was at Grand Central in Salt Lake, where he made many lifelong friends. In 1973, he began a 70-year career in telecommunications as an installer and repair technician for Mountain Bell, Pacific Bell, and AT&T. He even did a radio ad for Mountain Bell thanks to his deep, beautiful voice. Lenzie also ran track races for his companies at corporate events and won medals. He loved his work, enjoyed making his coworkers laugh, and always worked hard.

Sports were one of Lenzie’s greatest passions. He started playing in school and spent many years playing fast-pitch softball in Salt Lake City. As he got older, he switched to slow-pitch and kept playing two or three times a week until he passed away. For the past 13 years, every October, he traveled to St. George, Utah, to compete in the Huntsman’s Senior Games, where he won gold and silver in track and earned many softball awards. In Oregon, he also took up bowling. Lenzie loved staying active and cherished the friendships he made through sports. He was also a devoted sports fan, especially of the Dallas Cowboys from the age of 6, cheering them on through every season, win or lose.

Lenzie was known for his kindness, generosity, and sense of humor. Friends and family remember him as a man of integrity and warmth who truly loved life and made a positive difference to those around him. He had a special gift for connecting with people and building lasting relationships. His circle of friends was large, and if he wasn’t talking to someone on the phone, he was texting another friend. Lenzie cared deeply about his community and brought people together wherever he went. He loved giving everyone he met a new nickname, and his ability to form lifelong bonds touched people across many states.

A celebration of his life will be held in Oregon in the spring, date still to be determined.
